There was a separate track for high school students. In the morning there was a Masterclass on Security (in Dutch). In the afternoon's lecture (also in Dutch) an existing code has been broken and was shown how to agree on a secret key over a channel that is subject to eavesdropping.
For students from the 5th and 6th class of high school there was also a special Crypto workshop where they could learn the ins and outs of various codes and crypto systems from experts.
You could try for yourself how cryptology works and test your prowess at breaking encrypted texts. You shoudl have come to the Crypto workshop!
We had prepared a number of interesting systems that show the difference between symmetric and asymmetric cryptography. You could try to break them! What would you think of a small competition to see who can break a ciphertext first?
The workshop took approximately 30 minutes. It was open during the plenary sessions.
The Crypto workshop was given by prof.dr. Tanja Lange and drs. Christiane Peters (TU/e). This workshop was situated in the room left of the conference desk.
Moreover, during the whole week, February 8-12, a special room for the Scryption museum from Tilburg was opened at the TU/e campus. This museum has a large collection of artefacts for written communication and shows the history of ciphers throughout the ages. It also has various beautiful historic devices.
Location of the Scryption room: Posthumuszaal, auditorium
High school students who participated to this day have received a certificate that can be used for study orientation.
